Classic and Modern—Can You Have Both?

Modern Decor Meets Classic at Woodbine Mansion

So you’ve chosen a gorgeous turn of the century venue like Woodbine Mansion as your wedding venue? First of all, congratulations—you’re making big wedding planning strides! Based on your choice, there’s one thing we know about you: you love aspects of a classic, traditionally beautiful wedding. But wait, we’re not putting you in a box… because you, my friend, are a dynamic person and might want to infuse more modern decor aspects beside the classic elements of your wedding design, too.

OR let’s be real, the mother of the bride or groom wants to stay traditional with the wedding design, but it’s your wedding and you want to show your friends that YOU’ve got an eye for current design. This inspiration from Woodbine’s Sip & See event could be the perfect intersection to keeping everyone happy.

Traditional and Modern—Can You Have Both?

You sure can! Take this lounge, for example. Would you have been unsure about pairing the modern silhouettes of our Vesper Sofa and Rosa Peligrosa Lounge Chair with timeless white walls and original Victorian chandeliers? It might not have been your first instinct. Does it work? Definitely.

When you think of a classic wedding, a white or neutral color palette usually comes to mind. With a lounge like this, you still have bright whites from our Sherpa Lounge Chair and natural, light wood tones from our Rob Roy Coffee Table, but you don’t forfeit color at all. Pairing these neutrals with an olive green statement rug, like our Dirty Martini, Olive Velvet Ottomans and our Lady in Blue Loveseat adds so much visual interest.

Statement Bars

You’ve seen them all over Instagram and Pinterest. If you were sticking with super traditional design, you might book a classic white paneled bar—but in booking our Moonshine Bar you’re infusing some modern lines and color into your wedding decor. Its curved shape and fluted wood add interest to the space, but it’s not like you’re choosing something loud! However, if you do want a bright pink bar… we have a few. 😉

It’s in the Details

Side tables, pillows, and rugs are a great way to incorporate modern elements into your wedding decor too. Even if you choose to book more traditional furniture pieces, you can still accent them with some unique, current pieces. Think fur or patterns! 😍

What really matters is that your wedding feels like YOU—whether that means going full-on modern with rentals or weaving in just a few unexpected touches. Remember, you CAN have both!
