A Minimalist Take on Classic Texas
The Party at the Moontower brand is eclectic, unique, warm, colorful, fun and unexpected. But as a go-to for Austin party planning we know that an important aesthetic to nail is the classic, timeless, upscale Texas western wedding. You all know what we’re talking about! And if you don’t.. think white florals with a few bluebonnets, clean lines, natural wood, neutral and bright white fabrics, pristine cowboy hats with smart, sophisticated suits and dresses, usually located at a luxury hotel or country club.
Here, we share a Moontower-take on these types of events, a style which we could call “Refined or Minimalist Western.” Through carefully selected inventory, we were were able to infuse this wedding reception with Texas flavor in a more polished way—read: take away the distressed, rustic wood and other details that lean very country (although there’s a time and place for that too) and replace it with modern pieces that retain the local flavor and warmth of Texas.
Country Club, Curated
When planners or couples come to us dreaming of that classic Texas wedding style but with a customized feel, layering is key. With this lounge, it was placing our Butterscotch Cowhide Rug over a textured, olive Dirty Martini Rug. Layering these two rugs allowed us to incorporate the traditional, western aspect of the cowhide rug and add color and balance with a more modern textile.
You can also see this technique in the pillows we used in the next lounge—a cow print fur pillow paired with several neutral pillows. Layering the cow print with neutrals tones down design a little, instead of just screaming western.
For this second lounge, these Piscola Sofas were the most modern piece in the design. These sofas are inspired by the Art Deco era of the 30’s and 40’s—the shape is a little funky and the round, wood base is eye catching. Clean leather, warm wood, cow print and our gold and glass Golden Dream Coffee Table balanced our the eclectic vibes of the sofa, making sure the lounge didn’t lean too western or modern for a classic Texas wedding.
The thing about Texas is that no matter how upscale the design, there needs to be a few more casual, friendly elements. Think pairing cowboy boots with a black tie dress. Our Biergarten Table and Bench Sets might not have been the obvious choice for a luxury hotel reception but we love the warm, friendly vibes they delivered! At the end of the day, Texans love low-key spaces to socialize with a cold beer or margarita.
Here’s the pop of color you know and love from Party at the Moontower! We tried multiple paint colors in order to get this After Eight Bar just right and now it fits in almost everywhere! You can dress it up with white florals and classic, gold frames for a country club or surround it with colorful lounge pieces to really turn up the saturation of your event.
